The Palm Springs Power improved to 14-1 after a barn burner with the Colten Nighthawks. Cal Babtist pitcher Seth Mattox was back on the bump as is usual for Friday Power games. Mattox pitched a season high 6 innings and earned his 4th straight victory to start the summer season.
The Power jumped out to a 2-0 lead after a Kohl Abrams rbi double and a Dom Hughes rbi single in the 3rd inning. The Nighthawks scored the firsrt 2 runs off Mattox this year, 1 in the 4th and one in the 5th. Mattox tossed 6 inning of just 2 run ball with 5 strikeouts to keep the Power in the game.
UNC-Ashville first baseman Michael Groves stepped up in the bottom of the 6th and worked a full count against Colten Starter Chad Horton. Groves hit a solo moonshot into right-center field to break the 2-2 tie and put the Power ahead 3-2. The power added an insurance run in the home half of the 7th.

Matt Porter pitched the 7th in relief of starter Seth Mattox and pitched a clean inning with 2 punchouts of his own. Nevada’s Dorsey Chatham earned the 6 out save after coming on in the 8th. The nighthawks made it close scoring a 3rd run in the 9th and having the tying run 90 feet away at 3rd base. Chatham was able to strikeout the last batter to secure Palm Springs’ 14th win and 3rd in a row for a brand new win streak.

The Power are back to work at Palm Springs Stadium Saturday June 24th against the San Diego Wave. The Power will try for their 15th win of the year in late June after having 19 all of last season. Gates open at 6 and the game starts at 7. As every Saturday kids 12 and under get in free. Can’t wait to see you at the ballpark!
