Palm Springs, Calif. – The Palm Springs Power walked off the Inland Valley Legends in a comeback 8-7 victory in 10 innings Saturday night at Palm Springs Stadium.
The Power mounted a two out rally in the bottom of the tenth inning. Richie Amavizca (New Mexico Highlands), Dalton Thomas (St. Katherine’s) and Cody Kashimoto (St. Mary’s) worked three straight walks to bring Isaiah Monge (North Carolina A&T) to the plate. Behind in the count, Monge let a fastball run off of his hands to bring in Amavizca for the walk-off win.
Palm Springs extended their now 31 game win streak while securing the 11th straight win to start the 2024 summer.
The Power grabbed the lead in the first inning after Mark Kirkland (Cal Baptist) and Noah Blythe (Hawai’i Pacific) pulled off a double steal that saw Blythe score from third. In the following frame, Dalton Thomas (Saint Katherine’s) came around on the RBI single off the bat of Ely Brown (Mercer).
Kyle Mosely (Pitt) had a dominant first two innings that saw him strike out three batters in his first six outs. After a couple of hits and free passes, Inland Valley plated four runs in the third to take the lead. Moseley finished his day going seven innings with eight strikeouts.
The Power trailed by five runs entering the bottom of the seventh. Thomas set the table with a leadoff single and came around on an RBI single to center off the bat of Austin Haller (Western Kentucky).
After a walk to Kirkland, Aidan Taurek (St. Mary’s) delivered with the bases loaded. He laced a 0-1 pitch into the left field corner that cleared the bases and cut the deficit to one in front of a roaring crowd.
Dylan Van Meeteren (Lee University) and Holden Phelps (Pitt) worked back to back scoreless innings from the hill keeping the deficit at one entering the ninth.
Ely Brown started the ninth rally lining a 3-2 pitch into center field. Isaiah Monge came in to pinch run for Brown and advanced to second quickly on a wild pitch. The longest tenured Power player Blythe lined a ground ball past a diving shortstop to tie the game at seven.
Phelps pitched a clean tenth to set the stage for the walk-off victory.
Brown led the Power with a two hit night.
The Power resume play on Tuesday against the Inland Valley Pirates at 7 PM at Palm Springs Stadium. The Power will host Hispanic Heritage Night at the ballpark presented by Las Casuelas Terraza along with three dollar beer Tuesday.
