PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – The POWER swept a pivotal two-game series against the SoCal Bombers and after taking 13 innings to win last night, Palm Springs only needed a couple of big innings to dominate the Bombers in a 9-2 victory.
The POWER’s 1-4 hitters combined to go 6-for-16 with six RBI and six runs scored, two coming off the bat of Riverside City College’s Ryan Mota in a big four-run 7th inning. Brock Hale and John Mauldin were a menace on the base paths, combining for four stolen bases in an awesome display of speed and athleticism by the POWER outfielders.
They would get a solid pitching performance from Cameron Neff, who went five innings only allowing one hit and striking out six to improve to 2-0 on the season. He would allow three free passes, but it wouldn’t matter as the Bombers couldn’t get their bats in a groove to help out their offense.
Alec Rios, Jumpei Akanuma and Jordan Wood would go the final four innings in relief of Neff, shutting the door on the SoCal Bombers and their hopes on a higher seed in the SCCBL playoffs.
The POWER will have the day off tomorrow and resume action on Tuesday, as they begin a big conference series this week which is four of their last five games of the year before playoffs begin. Tuesday’s game will be at 7:05 PM and is dollar beer day, all Bud and Bud Light drafts are only a dollar! So come out and enjoy some cheap suds with your buds!
