Palm Springs, CA – The Palm Springs POWER defeated the San Diego Waves, 4-0, and took a no-hitter into the eighth inning on Tuesday night at Palm Springs Stadium. The no-hitter was broken up by the Waves lead-off hitter in the eighth. The win improves the POWER to 29-2 on the season and they remain at 18-1 in conference.
No. 22, Keenyn Walker
POWER starter Aaron Brooks went into the eighth inning for the POWER with a no-hitter and was able to pick up the victory. The victory improves Brooks’ record to 4-0 on the year. Brooks had nine strikeouts, allowing only one hit through seven innings. Brooks is set to pitch the opening game of the playoffs next Tuesday night at Palm Springs Stadium against the O.C. Pioneers. Kayvon Bahramzaddeh came in for Brooks in the eighth inning,picking up his first save for the POWER, going two innings and striking out five batters.
The POWER runs were scarce for the first seven innings, managing only one run in the third inning. Brandon Macias walked in the third and was then driven in by POWER centerfielder Brett Christopher. In the bottom of the eighth inning, the POWER scored two runs off of a two-out single by rightfielder Keenyn Walker. After Walker’s single, designated hitter Jacob Nelson knocked a double to the wall, scoring Keenyn Walker from first base.
The POWER return to action Wednesday night against the LA Thrashers at Occidental College for the final conference game of the year. The POWER return home on Friday night where they will play the Nor Cal Longhorns at 7:05 pm with gates opening at 6:00 pm. Friday is Host Family Appreciation Night, and the POWER Organization is looking forward to seeing all of the generous host families from the 2010 season in attendance.
