Palm Springs, Calif. – The Palm Springs Power used a massive eighth inning to stave off the Inland Valley Pirates 8-2 Saturday night at Palm Springs Stadium.
Tied at two entering the eighth Dom Hughes (Kansas State) led off the frame with a walk. Austin Haller (Western Kentucky) then came through in the clutch with a go-ahead RBI double.
The Power added big insurance runs with an Aiden Taurek (St. Marys) sacrifice fly and Noah Blythe (Hawaii Pacific) notching an RBI single. The inning was capped off by Cody Kashimoto knocking in another run on an RBI base hit. The six runs in the eighth inning mark the highest-scoring eighth inning this year for the Power.
On the mound Indio native Bear Pinedo (Hope International) thrived, tossing five innings with a run allowed. He surrendered just three hits and struck out five in his outing.
Holden Phelps (Pittsburgh) earned his third win of the season with three shutout innings. Phelps totaled five strikeouts and allowed just one baserunner. Phelps holds a 0.87 ERA in six outings this season.
The Power roared out to a fast start scoring two runs in the first inning that included an RBI triple by Blythe and base hits by Haller and Taurek.
Palm Springs improves to 20-0 and 11-0 in the CPCL. The organization has 39 straight wins dating back to 2023.
The Power continue CPCL action on Tuesday at Palm Springs Stadium facing the San Diego Waves at 7 PM. The Coachella Valley Firebirds mascot Fuego will make an appearance and throw out the first pitch. Tuesday is also Craft Beer Night with ten dollar flights while three dollar draft beers are also available for fans.
Palm Springs Stadium then hosts the Power’s annual Fourth of July Extravaganza on Thursday complete with fireworks. Tickets are available online.
