Palm Springs, Calif. – The Palm Springs Power’s pitching shut down the Inland Valley Pirates for a 7-2 win in Friday night’s series opener at Palm Springs Stadium. The Power have won their first 19 games of the season.
Josh Martinez (Cal State Northridge) started on the mound for the Power and delivered three scoreless frames striking out three. He worked ahead on batters and took advantage of an immediate 4-0 lead courtesy of a Noah Blythe (Hawaiʻi Pacific) RBI single and a two RBI double by Alonso Reyes (UC Irvine) in the first inning.
The aggressive base-running by the Power forced five Pirates’ errors giving pitcher Richie Amavizca (New Mexico Highlands) a comfortable lead to work the middle innings. Amavizca came out of the bullpen and allowed just two runs in 3.1 innings pitched striking out two.
The whole team shined offensively. Aiden Taurek (St Mary’s) reached base three times with a RBI double, a single and a run in the first frame. Blythe’s on base streak reached 18 games dating back to opening day while Isaiah Monge (North Carolina A&T) collected two hits.
In his Power debut, Fred Buckson (Vanguard) excelled. The infielder notched two hits and an RBI reaching in three of four plate appearances.
Hudson Boncal (Ohio) closed out the game on the bump. He replaced Amavizca in the seventh inning and struck out six in 2.2 innings of work without allowing a baserunner. The three Power pitchers combined to strike out 12 Pirates while allowing just three walks and six hits.
Palm Springs improves to 19-0 and 11-0 in the CPCL with 38 straight franchise wins dating to 2023.
The Power will continue CPCL action Saturday at Palm Springs Stadium, closing out the weekend series against the Pirates. Fans will enjoy Fitness Night presented by Haven Training and Orange Theory with fitness activities, games and giveaways for fans to enjoy. First pitch is slated for 7 PM.
The Power’s promotional schedule continues next week with the Coachella Valley’s Firebirds’ mascot Fuego making an appearance on Tuesday July 2nd before the Power’s Fourth of July fireworks spectacular next Thursday.
