Palm Springs, Calif. – The Palm Springs Power exploded for 10 runs on 14 hits on Tuesday night to defeat the New Lenox Pumas of Illinois 10-2 at Palm Springs Stadium.
Noah Blythe (Hawai’i Pacific) was perfect at the plate, going four for four with a pair of doubles. He led the way for an offensive attack that saw seven different players record at least one RBI.
The Power sent eight men to the plate in the second inning to plate their first two runs. An RBI sacrifice fly from Michael Gonzalez (LA Harbor) continued his early success in his first two games in a Power uniform.
After New Lenox tied the score in the third, the Power used an RBI double from Blythe and a Cody Kashimoto (St. Mary’s) sacrifice fly to take a four to two lead heading into the middle innings.
Back-to-back three-run innings in the fifth and sixth extended an insurmountable Power lead. An RBI single from Kashimoto in the fifth set the stage for RBI hits from Dalton Thomas (St. Katherine’s) and Ely Brown (Mercer).
Austin Haller (Western Kentucky) and Brown each had multi-hit games for Palm Springs. Their tenth and sixth, respectively.
Conner Batzer (Cal State San Bernardino) recorded the win on the mound for the Power. He worked around early traffic for a quality outing tossing six innings while allowing just two runs and tallying six strikeouts. Batzer has pitched three straight outings of at least six innings pitched.
Richie Amavizca (New Mexico Highlands) and newcomer Hudson Boncal (Ohio) pitched three combined scoreless innings of relief to secure the victory for Palm Springs. The Power have won seventeen straight to begin 2024 and thirty-six successive games dating back to last season.
The Power continue play Wednesday with a CPCL matchup versus the Inland Valley Legends at 7 PM. Palm Springs Stadium will host ‘Inside Out’ night presented by NAMI of the Coachella Valley and Coachella Valley Behavioral Health. Wednesday is also Wild Wednesday presented by Luxury Pools Construction and Design with four dollar margaritas.
