Palm Springs, Calif. – The Palm Springs Power rallied in the eighth inning scoring three runs to defeat the San Diego Bombers 5-4 Tuesday evening at Palm Springs Stadium.
Palm Springs improves to 9-0 on the season earning their first come from behind victory in the eighth or ninth inning.
The Power entered the bottom of the eighth trailing 3-2. Two errors by the Bombers allowed Austin Haller (Western Kentucky) and Noah Blythe (Hawai’i Pacific) to reach base.
Aiden Taurek (St. Mary’s) then drove in Haller on an RBI single to tie the game. Blythe scored on a passed ball giving the Power their first lead of the game and Angel Cortez (CSU Northridge) added an additional run driving in Taurek with a sac fly to right field for a 5-3 lead.
Kyle Mosley (Pitt) came out of the bullpen in the ninth to close the door against the Bombers. Mosley cataloged two strikeouts and struck out the final batter of the game with the bases loaded to record the save.
Connor Batzer (Cal State San Bernardino) worked a quality start on the bump for the Power. Batzer completed seven full innings with four strikeouts and allowed just three runs on four hits and no walks.
The Power trailed first to the Bombers as San Diego scored two runs in the fourth frame. The Power answered back in the bottom half via a Taurek RBI-double to cut the lead in half.
The Bombers added a run in the seventh to extend the lead to two. Palm Springs answered right back in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a passed ball on the Bombers catcher scoring Dalton Thomas (St. Katherine’s) to trim the deficit to just a run.
Taurek led the Power on the night with two hits and two RBI. Richie Amavizca (New Mexico Highlands) earned the win pitching a scoreless eighth inning.
