Friday night the Power battled the Inland Valley Pirates as they tried for their 5th straight win to open the season. Seth Mattox got the nod from Coach Casey Dill and pitched a gem. Mattox tossed 5 shutout innings allowing only 3 hits and punching out 7 Pirates on his way to the win. Inland Valley starter Nathan Helman gets hit with the loss after only pitching 2.1 innings.
Mattox wasn’t the only Power hurler that blew Pirate hitters away. Trae Robertson added 5 strikeouts of his own in 2 innings of relief. Kenny Shechter got the save tossing 2 scoreless to close off The Pirates.
The Power won 2-0. Noah Blythe added to his team leading rbi total, driving in Daulton Thomas in the 3rd inning. In the 6th BYU catcher Bryant Ball grounded into a double play with the bases loaded that added the second and final Power run. Although the fans at Palm Springs Stadium have become accustomed to seeing high scores, 2 runs was enough tonight with the masterful pitching.
The Power are back at it tomorrow against the same Inland Valley Pirates as they go for a weekend sweep and 6th win in a row. The game will start at 7 at Palm Springs Stadium and gates will open at 6. Remember that every Saturday kids 12 and under get in free. Come on out and enjoy some great baseball fun with the whole family!
