PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – The POWER welcomed the Force to town on Tuesday night and delivered San Diego their sixth conference loss of the season following a 13-1 victory for Palm Springs.
Force starter Brad Moreno didn’t have an answer to the POWER offense tonight, especially when it came to John Mauldin (University of New Orleans) as he enjoyed a four-hit night at the dish, including a triple and a three-run homer in the sixth. Mauldin would end up a double shy of the cycle, but also scored three runs himself.
Billy Johnson (York College) also had his day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a walk and a two-run home run to deep right, as well as scoring three runs. The POWER had six players with multiple-hit nights on the evening, including Maudin and Johnson, Justin Wylie (San Diego State), Cody Ducote (University of New Orleans), Skyler Hunter (Purdue) and Leo Kaplan (Northwestern).
Sawyer Gipson-Long (Mercer) had another stellar outing for the POWER, tossing seven innings of one-run ball, only allowing a solo home run to San Diego’s Tanner Pinkston in the second inning. Gipson-Long struck out eight Force batters and only issued one walk while allowing just four hits to earn the victory.
The Force drop to 11-6 in conference play while the POWER improve to 12-2. They will face off against one another again tomorrow evening at 7:05. Wednesday nights are always Family Appreciation Night at Palm Springs Stadium, where admission is just one dollar brought to you by Jack in the Box! So grab your family and friends and get to the ballpark for another great evening of SCCBL action!
