PALM SPRINGS, CA – Nick Medeiros (Santa Clara University) turned his first start for the POWER into a performance he won’t soon forget.
Medeiros tossed a complete game seven-hitter to lead the POWER to a 5-2 win over their SCCBL rival High Desert Heat on Saturday night at Palm Springs Stadium.
“I try to stick with the same routine. I knew the defense would come through and our offense would get clutch hits,” said Medeiros.
The clutch hits Medeiros spoke of came off the bats of Nick King (University of Georgia), Ino Patron (Long Beach State University), and Jordan Zimmerman (Mesa Community College) in a huge, three-run sixth inning.
Nick King’s RBI double broke the 2-2 tie and scored Connor Klein (Western Nevada College), who led off the inning with a single.
Jordan Zimmerman drove King in and Patron brought Zimmerman around to score with an RBI single of his own.
King went 2-for-3, drove in a pair of runs and added three stolen bases on the night.
Medeiros’s complete game was huge for the POWER not just because of the win, but because it helped preserve the bullpen.
Manager Harry Gurley’s squad has five more SCCBL games in five days including the final game of the three-game set with the High Desert Heat tomorrow night at 7:05.
