PALM SPRINGS – The POWER (28-3, 12-2) finished off a perfect weekend of games on Sunday, as they beat the East LA Dodgers in 11 innings, 4-3.
Doug Finley picked up his first win of the year out of the bullpen, throwing two scoreless innings. Keaton Hernandez turned in another quality outing in his fourth start, lasting into the seventh inning and striking out seven in a no-decision.
Brett Sullivan was the difference-maker at the plate for Palm Springs, picking up the game-winning RBI on a sacrifice fly to score Reagan Fowler. Anthony Lombardo also chipped in with a two-RBI single in the sixth inning.
After the teams traded zeros through the fifth inning, the POWER finally scored the game’s first runs in the sixth. Ryan Raslowsky reached on an error to lead off the frame before Jared Theisen and Tyler Truitt tallied back-to-back bunt singles to load the bases. Lombardo then chopped a base hit through the right side that scored Raslowsky and Theisen to make it 2-0. Fowler followed with a sacrifice fly to score Truitt and make it a 3-0 contest.
East LA answered with three runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game, but Palm Springs would not be denied the win as the game headed into extra innings.
Fowler started the bottom of the 11th by lashing a double down the left field line and moved to third on Eric Urry’s sacrifice bunt. After T.J. Bennett was intentionally walked, Sullivan stepped up and drove the ball to deep right field to bring Fowler home and give the red-and-white the victory.
The POWER are back in action on Tuesday when they host the Riverside Rebels for the first of four games in five days between the two teams. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Remember it is “Two-for-Tuesday,” meaning fans can enjoy two-for-one admissions, as well as discounts on select concessions.
