PALM SPRINGS – The POWER (25-3, 10-2) started off their Independence Day celebrations before the first firework went off, as they beat the Los Angeles Brewers, 6-0, on Thursday. Palm Springs is now 8-0 all-time in games played on July 4.

Mitch Bluman started for the POWER and turned in another quality outing, going seven scoreless innings and striking out three to improve to 2-0. The southpaw now has a scoreless streak of 14 1/3 innings. Eric Urry paced Palm Springs at the plate, going 1-for-3 with an RBI-double in the sixth inning.

After three scoreless frames to open the game, the POWER jumped out in front in the fourth inning. Jared Theisen was hit by a pitch to start the frame and was bunted over to second base by T.J. Bennett. After moving to third on a Jake Howeth ground-out, Theisen would score the game’s first run on an error by the Brewers.

Palm Springs added two more in the fifth to stretch the lead. Urry lead off with a walk and Michael Massi followed with a double to move him to third. Brett Sullivan knocked a single to right field to score Urry and move Massi to third. Theisen then picked up an RBI on a fielder’s choice that scored Massi to make it 3-0.

The POWER wrapped up the scoring with three more runs in the seventh thanks in large part to three-consecutive hits by Anthony Torres, Austin Barrett and Urry. All three would eventually score after reaching base with the key blow coming on Urry’s double to score Torres.

Mark Lukowski and Pete Reyes each worked a scoreless inning of relief to nail down the win for Palm Springs.

The POWER return to the diamond on Friday when they welcome the High Desert Heat for a two-game SCCBL set. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Remember, Friday is Dollar Beer Night, with Bud and Bud Light drafts available for just $1.
