It took a late rally from a late arrival to the lineup Saturday night but the POWER came back once again. They defeated the Casa Grande Cotton Kings by a score of 4-3 at Palm Springs Stadium on a beautiful Saturday night for baseball.
POWER Designated Hitter Brandon Macias arrived to the stadium to meet his teammates for the first time about an hour prior to the first pitch and wasted no time introducing himself. Macias pinch-hit for Ryota Kishi in the sixth and tied the game up on an RBI single. In his next at bat, Macias gave the POWER the lead for good with another RBI single in the bottom of the eighth.
The Macias RBI single plated POWER second-baseman Zack Haley for the game-winner, his second run of the game. Haley electrified the POWER faithful with a leadoff triple in the fifth and later came around to open up the POWER, scoring in the same inning. Driving in Haley was POWER third-baseman Nathaniel Guerra, who went 3-4 on the night. Both Haley and Guerra were added to the POWER roster earlier this week after making the team at Monday’s open tryout.
POWER reliever Kesley Kondo picked up the win after tossing two innings of shutout ball in the eighth and the ninth to help send POWER fans home happy. Kondo, a submarine-style pitcher, struck out three and only allowed one hit en route to the victory.
The POWER return to action and will be looking for the sweep on Sunday night as they wrap up their three-game opening weekend series with the Casa Grande Cotton Kings. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM, with gates opening at 6:00pm. Show up to the ballpark to celebrate your pride during the annual Pride Night at Palm Springs Stadium.
