PALM SPRINGS, CA — For only the third time this season, the Palm Springs POWER (38-7) were held scoreless as they fell 3-0 to the So Cal Sklz (24-23) Friday night at Palm Springs Stadium. The loss snapped the POWER’s 12-game winning streak.
Eight Sklz pitchers combined to pitch nine scoreless innings, allowing just four hits. Three of the POWER’s four hits were recorded by shortstop Chesny Young, who had a 3-for-4 night.
Bill Olson (1-1) started for Palm Springs, taking the loss after allowing three runs in three innings of work. Only one of the runs was earned.
Carlos Fuentes, Scott Simmons and Tony Guerra combined to hold the Sklz scoreless over the final six innings.
The POWER are off on Saturday night before returning to action on Sunday against the East LA Dodgers at Palm Springs Stadium.
Saturday is the annual Home Run Derby and All-Star Game between the Southern California Collegiate Baseball League and Orange County Collegiate League at Palm Springs Stadium. The night will showcase the best talent from each league. The derby will begin at 6:00 p.m. and the game will follow after at approximately 7:05 p.m.
