PALM SPRINGS, CA – Three Palm Springs (34-6) pitchers combined to allow just one run on five hits as the POWER held on to defeat the Nor-Cal Longhorns 2-1 at Palm Springs Stadium on Friday night.
Carlos Fuentes (4-1) got the win pitching four shutout innings and striking out six batters in relief of starter Jake McCoy.
Edgar Gomez recorded his fifth save of the year in a shaky ninth inning that saw him walk the leadoff hitter Kevin McGovern, only to have him erased by catcher Joel Thys as he tried to steal second.
Left-fielder Rich Seigel came up clutch in the sixth inning as he singled home Brooks Klein, who started the inning with a single, to put the POWER ahead for good.
Dylan Becker got Palm Springs on the board in the fifth as he singled to drive home Bryan Niedbalski.
The POWER have now won nine in a row and 19 of 20 overall. They are back in action tomorrow as they take on the Longhorns in game two of their series on Host Family Night at the ballpark.
