Palm Springs, Calif. – The Palm Springs Power continued their outstanding summer campaign on Thursday night, rolling past the So Cal Falcons 12-1 in a seven-inning contest at Palm Springs Stadium.
The Power wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, striking first in the opening inning. Juni Rodriguez delivered an RBI to bring home the game’s first run and give Palm Springs an early 1-0 advantage.
After a quiet second inning, the Power offense exploded in the third. Rodriguez highlighted the five-run frame by launching a two-run home run as part of a three-RBI night. Kai Cunningham and Blake Mitchell each added RBI base hits during the inning as Palm Springs quickly built a commanding lead.
The offense wasn’t finished.
Palm Springs broke the game wide open in the fifth inning, sending six more runs across the plate. The Falcons’ pitching staff struggled to find the strike zone, issuing seven free passes in the inning, allowing the Power to capitalize and stretch the lead to 12-0.
While the offense piled up runs, the Power pitching staff continued its recent stretch of dominance. Palm Springs carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning before Michael Saltzer broke it up with a two-out single. Saltzer later came around to score the Falcons’ lone run of the night, preventing the shutout, but the Power closed out the 12-1 victory in the seven-inning contest.
Rodriguez paced the offense with three RBIs, while Cunningham and Mitchell each contributed run-scoring hits as the Power continued to fire on all cylinders on both sides of the ball.
The Power return to Palm Springs Stadium on Friday night for NBC Night and Host Families Night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
