Palm Springs, Calif. –  The Palm Springs Power completed the home stretch of a four-game home-and-home series against the Inland Valley Legends in one of the most heart-racing games of the season. For the second straight night, an 8th inning home run shifted the complexion of the game, with tonight Juni being the hero. Tonight’s Power win clinched the number one seed in the CPCL, meaning the CPCL postseason runs through Palm Springs.

It was a pitchers’ duel through the first four innings, with Sam Burgess providing a solid 4-inning start without allowing any runs. The Power held a slim one-run lead after 4, but gave up two runs in the 5th. Bottom five would see more offense, with the Power responding to tie the game instantly following a Brett Williams double.

Late-inning runs ended up being the story of Saturday’s ballgame, starting with 2 runs in the top half of the 7th, and another run being added on in the 8th to give the Legends a five-to-two lead heading to the bottom of the eighth. A costly two-out error gave the Power an extra out and a second chance at life with Juni Rodriguez stepping to the plate. Three pitches later, after trailing by three runs, a 408-foot grand slam off the bat of Juni Sanchez flipped the game on its head, giving the Power a six-to-five lead.

The Power turned to Keith Williams for a second inning of work to seal the deal, and he delivered with a one, two, three inning to seal a victory and the number one overall seed in the CPCL postseason. Saturday’s victory improved the Power’s overall record to twenty-six and three and now holds home-field advantage for the CPCL playoffs.

The Power are back in action Tuesday night with a matchup against the East LA Dodgers, seeking to build momentum heading into the postseason. Tuesday’s first pitch is set for 7:00 PM PST with gates opening at 6:00 PM.
