Palm Springs, Calif. – The Power Summer Collegiate League’s All Star team took on the Palm Springs Power on Saturday for their 4th of July game. The Power rode multiple big innings to take home a dominant 11-3 win over the PSCL.
A four-run second inning for the Power was the difference in the game. Caden Richards led off the inning with a scalded triple off the right field wall and was scored on a throwing error that allowed Jasso to reach on a dropped third strike. The Power scored three more that inning, ending with a Jayden Sanchez RBI single to plate Kayden Durazo.
The Power turned to their bullpen after the four run frame. Javier Vasquez took over for Alex Oliver who allowed three over the first two innings to the All Stars. In a 4-3 game, Vazquez fired four shutout innings to take home the win and get to the late innings for the Power bullpen.
The PSCL Sent out eight pitchers against the Power and held it close until the late innings. Ian Kolmer from the Bombers was on the mound in the sixth for the PSCL. The Power loaded the bases before Owen Michaelson got hit to drive in a run. Jayden Sanchez grounded in what looked to be an inning-ending double play, but a high throw by the Grizzly’s Pano Koutoulas resulted in two runs scoring on an error to make it 8-3.
Three more runs scored over the final two innings for the Power adding more insurance to a game that was well in hand. The Power sent Keith Williams to the mound in the ninth who struck out two and fired a 1-2-3 inning to close out the win.
The Power bullpen was the difference in the game. The unit delivered 7 shutout innings and only allowed three hits. Tyler Crawford, Isaac Sanchez and Keith Williams threw the last three after Vasquez’s effort. Vasquez took the win, Connor Crawford for the Haymakers took the loss.
The PSCL will be the first back in action on Sunday Morning with the playoffs starting. Games will be held at Palm Springs Stadium and the auxiliary field. Four games will take place Monday with the first stadium game at 9:00am.
The Power will be back at Palm Springs Stadium on Tuesday for a game against the Southern Nevada Coyotes before a road series against the Inland Valley Pirates and Bucs on Thursday.
