Palm Springs, Calif. – The Palm Springs Power continued their hot streak on Thursday night, cruising past the California Halos 17-4 to extend their winning streak to six games.
The Power wasted no time getting on the board, plating three runs in the bottom of the first inning. After putting runners on base early, Matt Mecate delivered a two-run single to give the power the early advantage and set the tone for the night.
The Halos answered in the third inning, cutting into the deficit with two runs. Consecutive hits from Perez and Olsen helped the Halos produce their only offense against Power starter Jimi Welsher.
Welsher settled in after the third and turned in another strong outing on the mound. The left-hander earned the victory after throwing six innings, allowing just two hits and two runs, with only one of those runs earned. He also kept the Halos off balance throughout the evening and gave the Power offense plenty of opportunities to build on their lead.
Palm Springs broke the game wide open in the sixth inning with a seven-run explosion. The Power’s offense put together a relentless hit parade, collecting seven hits in the frame and sending wave after wave of runners across the plate to put the game out of reach.
Leading the offensive charge was RJ Holmes, who delivered the most impressive performances of the season. Holmes finished a perfect 6-for-6 at the plate with four RBIs and was just a home run shy of hitting for the cycle.
The Power offense continued to pile on runs late, finishing with 17 runs on the night and securing their sixth consecutive victory.
Palm Springs will look to keep the momentum and win streak rolling on Friday night when they welcome the Inland Valley Bucs to town. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
