Palm Springs, Calif. – After welcoming the California Halos to town on Friday for the first of a two-game weekend series, the Palm Springs Power reigned victorious, defeating the Halos 10-2.
After dropping their first loss of the season to the Alameda Merchants on Wednesday evening, the Power were quick to correct their mistakes, jumping out to a 10-0 lead after three innings.
Two wild pitches and a throwing error hurt the Halos in the first inning, as the Power cakewalked their way to three runs.
In the following frame, Matthew Mecate, batting just .154 coming into the game, blasted a three-run home run over the wall in right-center field, putting the Power ahead 6-0.
They added four more runs in the bottom half of the third, this time by way of another fielding error and a Caden Richards single.
Richards finished the game 2-4, with a run batted in (RBI) and a walk.
His performance comes off the heels of an incredible 4-5 performance, which included a pair of extra-base hits, along with two RBI.
Starting pitcher Jimi Welsher was equally dominant, allowing just two hits and no runs across three innings of work.
Perhaps more impressive for the Power, however, was the lights-out performance of Andrew Baltazar.
Across two innings of work, the right-hander struck out five while allowing just two hits. Baltazar would also collect the pitching win.
En route to collecting the loss, Jonathan Gurolla issued five walks, three hits, and five earned runs across just 1.1 innings of work.
The two teams meet again on Saturday evening for the final game of the series. First pitch will be at 7:00 with gates opening at 6:00.
