Palm Springs, Calif. – The Palm Springs Power beat the Utah Yaks on Friday 8-5 on Friday with a three-run walk-off home run from Noah Arreola in the ninth. Angel Rios took the loss and Alex Oliver was credited with the win. It was a back and forth contest throughout with the Yaks who started the scoring in the first with an RBI double that scored Jake Mortenson. The teams traded blows until the Power delivered a punch in the sixth. Palm Springs first four baserunners reached against the Yaks starter Dominic Gonsalez in his final inning.
The Power sent 10 to the plate and scored four runs between the Yaks starter and Darren Herrera who came in from the bullpen. Herrera struggled to find the zone and the Power left the inning up 5-2. Three Yaks runs in the 7th and 8th innings sent Palm Springs to the ninth tied 5-5. Owen Michaelson led off with a single and Adam Axtel got hit by a pitch with one out to put the game in Arreola’s hands. The Yaks turned to Angel Rios to take the game to extra innings. Arreola saw the first pitch and sent it over the left field wall to walk it off for the first win of the season.
The Power move to 1-0 and the Yaks took their first loss of the season. The Power and Yaks will face off again on Saturday for Little League Night at the ballpark sponsored by Kia Palm Springs. All local leagues are welcome and players in uniform will be on field pregame.
