Palm Springs, Calif. – The Palm Springs Power finished the regular season with a 14-2 domination of the California Halos Friday night at Palm Springs Stadium.
The fourth inning is where the Palm Springs Power offense exploded. They sent 12 batters to the plate and finished with 7 hits in the inning. The inning was keyed by RBI singles by Austin Haller (Western Kentucky), Noah Blythe (Hawaii Pacific) and Aidan Perez (CSU Northridge). Angel Cortez (CSU Northridge) placed the exclamation point on the inning with a bases clearing triple.
After the Halos scored one run in the third inning, the Power offense went to work scoring three runs to tie the ballgame. An RBI single by Haller started the scoring and Cortez knocked in two more on a single.
Josh Martinez (UC Riverside) started on the mound tossing four innings without allowing an earned run with three strikeouts.
Holden Phelps (Pittsburgh) earned the win pitching a scoreless inning out the bullpen. Johnny Young (Texas A&M Texarkana) also tossed two scoreless innings as the Power bullpen combined to throw five shutout innings.
Cortez led the Power with six RBIs- the most on the season for a Power player. Michael Gonzalez (LA Harbor) also had a big night with three hits including two doubles and a run. Haller finished with two hits and two RBIs and Aiden Taurek (St. Mary’s) recorded a multi-hit game and scored three runs.
A monster 17 hit game by the Power capped the regular season with just one blemish at 33-1 in the 2024 summer.
The Power shift their focus to the California Premier Collegiate League Championship Series starting Saturday night in Palm Springs. Game one of a best-of-three series against the San Diego Waves is at 7 PM as the final game of the season at Palm Springs Stadium. The Power and Waves will finish the series on Sunday in Azusa with a Game 2 and if necessary a Game 3 at the Cougar Baseball Complex.
