Palm Springs, Calif. – The Palm Springs Power got back in the win column on Wednesday night, bouncing back from yesterday’s loss to the Inland Valley Pirates with a convincing 14-4 victory over the Santa Clarita Victory.
The Power wasted little time taking control, striking first in the bottom of the second inning. Three consecutive hits ignited the offense before Matt Mecate ripped a two-run double to give Palm Springs an early advantage.
The bats stayed hot in the third as the Power hung a four-spot on the scoreboard. Mecate continued his standout night with another RBI knock, while Juni Rodriguez added an RBI of his own as Palm Springs stretched its lead and never looked back.
The offense kept the pressure on by scoring in four consecutive innings, plating three more runs over the fourth and fifth innings to build a comfortable cushion.
Santa Clarita finally broke through in the sixth inning with a pair of runs and added two more in the eighth, but the Power quickly answered with their biggest inning of the night. Palm Springs erupted for five runs in the bottom of the eighth, highlighted by RBI hits from Nick English, Mecate, and Rodriguez to put the game out of reach.
Mecate paced the offense with a monster performance at the plate, driving in 4 runs while helping spark nearly every big inning. Rodriguez also delivered timely hits throughout the game, also finishing with 4 RBI’s. While English chipped in during the decisive eighth-inning rally.
On the mound, the Palm Springs pitching staff turned in another solid performance. The staff held Santa Clarita scoreless through the first five innings before allowing four runs on just four hits over the course of the game, giving the offense all the support it needed.
The victory gets the Power back on track as they continue their strong early-season play following Tuesday’s setback.
