After falling to the Pirates on Wednesday, the Power entered Friday’s rematch hoping to make a statement.
Statement made.
The Palm Springs Power (13-2) delivered an offensive onslaught by scoring in six of their eight offensive innings en route to a 15-4 victory over the Inland Valley Pirates (3-4).
Every scoring inning provided fireworks, but the marquee highlight came in the fifth inning when second baseman Trevor Banning sent a Jorge Valdez pitch over the wall for a grand slam which doubled as Banning’s first home run with the Power.
Banning added a two-RBI single in the third to complete a six-RBI performance in just his fourth game with the Power.
Another bright spot for the Power came from left fielder Owen Michaelson who appeared in his first game in 17 days after suffering an injury back on June 2.
Michaelson, hitting fifth in the lineup, lined a pitch into right field for a base hit in his first at-bat and later drew a walk in a successful return.
The Power face the Pirates again Saturday at 7:00 in Palm Springs Stadium. Saturday is City of La Quinta night, meaning all La Quinta citizens receive free admission to the game. All children ages 12 and under also gain free admission as part of kids’ night.
