Palm Springs, Calif. – The Palm Springs Power won their 18th game of the season against the PSCL all stars on Friday night’s 4th of July all star game. The win was the Power’s sixth all time in the annual game moving their record to 6-1 all time.
Trevor Eby started on the mound for the power firing three innings, but ran into trouble in the third. The PSCL jumped on the right-hander after he hit Zach Lewis with one out. TJ Wilson singled to move him to third and four of the next five batters reached base. The PSCL scored three runs and took held that lead until the eighth inning.
Zach Novis deployed 11 pitchers for the PSCL in their effort. Christian Henderson faced the first eight batters in two scoreless innings. Lamont Bufford took over in the third and the Power started the comeback. Mark Kirkland put Palm Springs on the board with an RBI single to left field that scored Myles Walton from third.
The two traded zeroes for the next three innings Zach Thomason came in from the bullpen to face the heart of the Power lineup. Caden Stillwell took over with no outs and two runners on Dalton Thomas pinch hit with one out and laid down a sacrifice bunt to move over Cato Kleinman and score Andrew Rivas from third, cutting the lead to one run.
Matt Wallin came in to start the eighth inning for the PSCL and immediately walked Andrew Rivas to lead it off. A wild pitch allowed him to reach second. Casey Kleinman struck out on a dropped third strike and Rivas advanced on the throw to first.
Controversy immediately struck. After the throw to third was late and Rivas was called safe, the second base umpire signaled a balk and waved Rivas home to tie the game. Both benches along with the entire crowd erupted with split reactions.
Isaac Quintero relieved Naun Haro after five scoreless innings from the bullpen and fired his own shutout frame in the top of the ninth. With the game tied, the PSCL turned to Brady Bickett for the ninth to face the top of the Power lineup.
Myles Walton led off the inning with a walk and immediately scored second. The PSCL induced a fly out on the next at bat but loaded the bases with two outs. Cato Kleinman hit an 0-1 pitch up the middle to score Myles Walton from third and walk off the game. The Power took home the win 4-3 in their third 4th of July win in a row.
The Power face off against the Colton Nighthawks on Saturday at 7pm at Palm Springs Stadium in another CPCL matchup.
