Palm Springs, Calif. – The Power defeated the Inland Valley Legends 8-5 on Friday night in the CPCL opener at Palm Springs Stadium.
Power pitching struck out a dozen batters but allowed nine free bases which created a few high-leverage situations. Tyrone Woods got the start and struggled with command, striking out three and walking five batters across two innings.
It was a back-and-forth game through three innings as the Legends jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first and 3-2 in the second. The game was 5-5 going into the bottom of the sixth when 2024 PSCL Pitcher of the Year Anthony Sanchez struck out the side, swinging the momentum of the game back to the Power.
Shortstop Casey Kleinmen kept that momentum going with a leadoff triple in the left-field corner. Myles Walton drove him home with a single up the middle, giving the Power a 6-5 lead.
The Power added two more runs with Mark Kirkland’s RBI double and KJ Moon’s RBI single with one out in the sixth, extending the lead to 8-5. The three-run inning was enough to hold off the Legends.
Catcher Bryant O’Neill was named Player of the Game as he went 3-for-3 with two doubles, two walks, and four runs batted in to lead the offense.
His first double gave the Power a 2-1 lead in the first. His second tied the game at 4. He then drew two walks and roped a double off the right field wall, capping off an impressive offensive performance in which he reached base in all five plate appearances.
Andrew Baltazar entered the game in the 8th inning to retire all six Legends he faced and earned the save.
The Power improved to 5-0 and 1-0 in the CPCL for the 2025 season and are hosting the Legends again on Saturday night.
