Palm Springs, Calif. – The Palm Springs Power showcased both their baseball prowess and community spirit earlier today, Sunday, June 1st, at Palm Springs Stadium, as they faced off against the brave men and women of the Palm Springs Police and Fire Departments in an exciting charity exhibition match. In a fun-filled contest that saw the Power emerge victorious with a 10-1 final score, the true winners were the local first responders. All proceeds from the game were proudly donated to benefit both the Palm Springs Fire Association and the Palm Springs Police Association, reinforcing the strong bonds between the team and the city’s dedicated public servants.
The fundraiser drew hundreds of fans who were offered free admission to the family-friendly event. Proceeds were raised through the auction of two autographed bats, signed by Power players and representatives of the Palm Springs Police and Fire departments.
The on-field action combined competitive spirit with plenty of smiles, as the Power’s lineup proved formidable against their first-responder counterparts, defeating them 10-1. Power player Riley Ricken highlighted the evening with a two-run double that helped extend the team’s lead to double digits.
But the night belonged to more than just the scoreboard. Firefighter Hayden Wright delivered the loudest hit for the first responders, lacing a double off the Sherman’s Deli sign in left-center field. The hit drew cheers from both dugouts and fans alike.
The coaching staff, led by Fire Chief Paul Alvarado and Chief of Police Andrew Mills, put together a roster including some players who were capable of creating a spark for their team.
Policeman Araceli Ramirez pitched well for the first-responders, eating up some innings and striking out a few batters as well. The police and fire teams pushed across their first run in the late innings, thanks to a bases-loaded walk drawn by Palm Springs Police Officer Arturo Bravo.
Despite the final score leaning heavily in favor of the Power, the event’s true success was measured in its community impact.
The Palm Springs Power continues its season this week with a home game on Tuesday night against the San Diego Bombers at 7 pm.
