Palm Springs, Calif. – A wild six-run sixth inning pushed the Palm Springs Power past their rivals the Havasu Heat 13-8 on Tuesday night at Palm Springs Stadium.
The Power flipped a one run game upside down in the sixth inning. Aiden Taurek (St. Mary’s) kickstarted the inning with an RBI double. In the same sequence, the Heat threw the ball away sending Taurek all the way around the bases for a little league home run. Noah Blythe (Hawaiʻi Pacific) then provided the fireworks with a monstrous solo home run for his second blast of the season.
The Power wasted no time getting off to a quick start with seven runs in the first three innings. A two-run second inning consisted of an RBI single by Dalton Thomas (St. Katherine’s) and an RBI double by Ely Brown (Mercer).
The top of the lineup spearheaded another big inning with three runs in the fourth inning. Austin Haller (Western Kentucky) notched an RBI single followed by Blythe knocking in two runs on a single.
Blythe led the Power with three hits, three RBIs and two runs. Thomas recorded a two hit night with two runs.
The Power bullpen was excellent on Tuesday with four pitchers allowing a combined just two earned runs over the final five innings. Bear Pinedo (Hope International) pitched first out of the pen with three strikeouts in two innings.
Johnny Young (Texas A&M Texarkana) pitched a scoreless frame, Brenton Thiels (Louisiana Tech) worked a perfect eighth inning and Holden Phelps (Pittsburgh) sealed the win in the ninth.
Palm Springs and Havasu continue the series on Wednesday at Palm Springs Stadium with a 7 PMfirst pitch. Wednesday is Palm Springs Library Night with all library cardholders receiving free admission. The Power will also host Margarita Madness presented by Luxury Pools Construction and Design with discounted four dollar margaritas.
