Palm Springs, Calif. –  The Palm Springs Power are the number one seed in the California Premier Collegiate League (CPCL) playoffs and will host Game 1 of the CPCL Championship Series on Saturday at Palm Springs Stadium.

The series is a best-of-three format. The Power will face the second seeded San Diego Waves (20-19 overall, 10-10 CPCL). Game 2 will be played on the road at the Cougar Baseball Complex in Azusa on Sunday afternoon at 1 PM, and if-needed, Game 3 will immediately follow.

Saturday night’s game is slated for a 7 PM first pitch. All kids 12 and under receive free admission as part of Jack in the Box Family Day. All tickets are available at the stadium box office when gates open at 6 PM on Saturday.

All CPCL Championship Games will also be available to stream on the Power Baseball Broadcast Network. Fans can also follow along for updates on the Power’s social media pages.

The Power are looking to repeat as CPCL champions after winning the league’s inaugural title last season, finishing with a 30-1 record. Palm Springs has won nine outright championships in the organization’s 19 seasons.

The Power (32-1 overall, 19-1 CPCL) swept the five-game season series versus the Waves and most recently won two games in a road doubleheader, 12-4 and 8-1 on Monday.

San Diego has proved to be the most consistent threat against Palm Springs throughout CPCL play. The average margin of victory for the Power against the Waves is 4.8 runs and early in the season, the Waves narrowly lost a weekend series, by scores of 6-4 and 6-3.

In their first season in the CPCL, the Waves held off a late push from the Inland Valley Legends to claim their spot in the championship series. The second seed in the CPCL came down to the final game of the regular season with the Waves taking down the Legends 5-1 on Wednesday in a “win and you’re in” scenario. The key for the Waves has been their consistency as they have never fallen more than two games below .500 during the CPCL slate.

Alonso Reyes (UC Irvine) are among those happiest to see the Waves again. In five games against San Diego, Reyes has batted 9 for 20 (.455 BA) with a pair of RBIs and a hit in every game.

Aidan Taurek (St. Mary’s) is swinging the hottest bat in the CPCL going into the playoffs. Over his last seven games he has slashed eleven hits with seven extra base hits, including two home runs and nine RBIs.

The starting pitching for the Power has been outstanding down the stretch as well, pitching to the tune of a 3.44 ERA over their last nine games. The trio of Hudson Boncal (Ohio University) Brenton Thiels (Louisiana Tech) and Conner Batzer (Cal State Bernardino) have led the way for the pitching staff with twelve wins amongst the three of them.

The Palm Springs Power are a summer collegiate baseball team playing all games at Palm Springs Stadium. The Power are a member of the California Premier Collegiate League and the league’s inaugural champions in 2023. Palm Springs has won nine league championships in 19 seasons of playing baseball in the desert dating to 2004.
