Palm Springs, Calif. – The Power played catch up on Wednesday night for their first comeback win of the season defeating the Santa Clarita Victory 17-7 at Palm Springs Stadium.
The evening started as a back and forth game during the early innings with the Victory taking an early lead in the first inning and answering every time the Power scored.
The Power burst the tie game open in the fifth. Aiden Taurek (Saint Mary’s) kickstarted the inning blasting his second home run of the season over the left field wall. Taurek then helped cap the big inning with a two RBI single.
Palm Springs scored seven total runs in the fifth frame, sending 12 batters to the plate. Three walks and some aggressive baserunning in the inning from the Power helped build an insurmountable lead heading into the sixth inning.
The Power added one more big inning scoring four runs in the 7th. Mark Kirkland (Cal Baptist) started the inning by taking his third of four walks on the night, extending his team-leading total walks to nine. The Power followed with three runs on four hits to build the lead to 11.
A plethora of Palm Springs batters shined but Taurek was the big star of the night at the plate. He finished the night with five hits and five RBI.
On the mound Trevor Eby (UT Arlington) started the game and worked three innings with three strikeouts. Holden Phelps (Pittsburgh) threw two innings and earned the win. Johnny Young (Texas A&M Texarkana) was key out of the bullpen, pitching three innings and allowing just one run.
The Power continue action on Friday, opening California Premier Collegiate League play against the Inland Valley Legends at 7 PM. Palm Springs Stadium will host State Farm Cindy Pieper Night with giveaways and an appearance from Jake from State Farm.
