Palm Springs, Calif. – Palm Springs Power pitchers held the San Diego Waves scoreless over the final four innings on Saturday night to complete a series sweep with a 6-4 victory at Palm Springs Stadium.
Holden Phelps (Pittsburgh) pitched three scoreless innings out of the bullpen to earn the win. He struck out five batters and allowed just three baserunners.
Brenton Thiels (Louisiana Tech) earned the save wiggling around a two on jam for a scoreless ninth to secure the win.
Andrew Pinedo (Hope International) started the ballgame tossing 4.1 innings with seven strikeouts.
The sixth inning proved to be the decisive inning for the Power as the team broke a 4-4 tie with two runs on three hits.
Derek Houston (Utah Valley) started the inning with a single. Dom Hughes (Kansas State) followed with another single and pinch runner Dalton Thomas (St. Katherine’s) raced to third on the hit before scoring on a Waves’ throwing error. Ely Brown (Mercer) then struck an RBI double down the left field for a two run lead.
Alonso Reyes (UC Irvine) and Cody Kashimoto (St. Mary’s) led the Power with two hits apiece.
Offensively Palm Springs scored six runs on ten hits while pitching held the Waves to just four runs on seven hits. The win moves the Power to 16-0 on the season and improves their current win streak to 35 straight victories dating back to the 2023 season.
The Power continue play Tuesday night at Palm Springs Stadium facing the New Lenox Pumas. Tuesday is motorcycle bike night at the ballpark presented by Coachella Valley VFW chapters with a motorcycle parade and bikes on display. The Power will also host three dollar beer night on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 7 PM.
