After two days off to think on their first loss of the season, the Palm Springs Power found themselves back in the win column with a decisive victory over the SoCal Mavericks.
Power starter Trae Robertson earned another Player of the Game performance tossing 6.2 innings, a team season high. Robertson, a Kansas State Wildcat, shoved for 11 strikeouts allowing only 3 runs on 4 hits earning the win.
The Power bats got off to a slow start against Mavs starter Kyle Douphner. They were able to get to him in the 4th inning striking for 3 including a Dom Hughes 2-run triple into the right field corner. The Power added 4 more I’m the home half of the 6th inning. BYU backstop hit a bullet 91 mph off the bat for a 2 rbi double into left field.
The offense was plenty for a Power victory with the way the pitching dominated. After Robertson gave up his only 3 runs in the 7th, Pitt pitcher Kyle Mosley came on in relief to close out the SoCal Mavericks. Mosley pitched 2.1 scoreless innings tossing 5 K’s of his own including the back door slider of a dagger to end the game.
The Power improve to 12-1 on the season after the 8-3 victory over SoCal. They look to start a new winning streak tomorrow night against these same Mavericks at Palm Springs Stadium. Game time is 7:00 and the gates open at 6:00. Come cheer on the deserts home town team.
