PALM SPRINGS, Calif – The Palm Springs POWER got to show off what true power looks like as they took on the California Halos, looking for win number 17 of the season. With Miles Halligan starting and a couple of good at-bats by Anthony Angel Jr. and Jacob Mejia, the POWER extended their win streak to 6, and are now just 2 wins away from tying last season’s 19-win season. It was a magical $4 Wine Wednesday, and a night a few of the POWER players will be talking about for weeks to come.
It all started with Miles Halligan on the bump, as the University of Pittsburg player came in locked in, striking out 6 of his first 9 batters he faced. His opponent, Aiden Cremarosa, was matching him pitch for pitch with some high velocity pitching of his own, striking out the first 5 POWER players he faced. It wasn’t until the 3rd inning as he faced Anthony Angel Jr., who took a fastball out to rightfield, only for the crowd and even the broadcasters to be caught off guard as it caught a jet stream and carried all the way out of the park for a solo homerun, his first of the season. Running around the bases, even Angel didn’t think it made it over the fence. After a couple of runners got back on base for the POWER in the bottom of the 4th, Jacob Mejia crushed a no-doubt homerun out to the auxiliary field, which helped him secure Player of the Game honors. Julian Orozco, Dorsey Chatham and Kenneth Schecter came in to relieve Halligan as he finished 5 innings of play with no walks allowed and 8 strikeouts. After the homerun balls, it felt as if the game started moving at a quicker pace and before you knew it, the POWER were up by 9, Kenneth Schecter struck out Connor Whitcomb, and the POWER were on the field celebrating their 17th victory of the season.
The POWER will be off for tomorrow but will be back on Friday, June 30th, as they take on the Inland Valley Legends. The POWER will be looking for their 7th win in a row and a little bit of revenge as the Legends have given the POWER their only loss this season. Seth Mattox is likely to start this Friday, boasting a whopping .86 ERA for the season. Game time will be at 7:00 PM on Friday, and gates will be opening at 6:00 PM.
