Shout it from the rooftops, the Palm Springs Power are 16-1, and have a five-game winning streak going. Good times rolled on at Palm Springs Stadium as the Power used a 5-run bottom of the sixth inning to propel to a 6-4 win over the San Diego Grind on Tuesday night.
Kyle Mosley got the start for the Power, and he pitched 4.2 strong innings, although not
as strong as some of his previous outings for the Power. In the start, he walked 2, punched out six, and allowed two runs, a start that gives the Power a chance to win, despite him exiting with the team trailing 2-1 in the top of the 5th. The start also raised his summer ERA from 1.37 to a still elite 2.03.
The Power bats got to work in the bottom of inning number six, loading the bases with no outs for Emanuel Dean, a hitter who has struggled to find his footing in his second rodeo for the Power. However, sometimes one hit is all it takes, and Dean stroked a single to left center field over the head of the shortstop, bringing two runs in to score, giving the Power the lead at 3-2.
Dean said after the game that it felt good to “get behind his guys” when he saw that ball get through the hole and drop for a base hit. He’s stayed even-keeled despite the struggles, and it paid off for him on Tuesday night.
Kohl Abrams provided a second two-run single with no outs in the sixth, and when it was all over, the Power had a 6-2 lead going into the 7th inning.
The big inning has become a trademark for the Power, with crooked numbers galore all season long. 5-spots, 6-spots, and 7-spots have found homes on the Palm Springs Stadium scoreboard’s bottom row, and the Power continue to win games thanks to stringing these rallies together.
Matt Porter struck out six batters in 2.1 scoreless innings of relief, and then Michael Groves punctuated the game by pitching the final two innings, and despite allowing two runs, striking out three, including the final batter of the game, to give the Power the win.
The Power take on the SoCal Halos on Wednesday night at Palm Springs Stadium trying to keep their winning streak alive.
