SCCBL All-Stars vs. OCCL All-Stars

Palm Springs, CA -– Former Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres first baseman Steve Garvey will be honored in a pre-game ceremony on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Palm Springs Stadium.

Garvey, the 1974 National League MVP, was an All-Star for the NL every year from 1974-81 and again in 1984-85. He holds the NL record for consecutive games played (1,207) and finished his 19-year career with a .294 batting average, 272 home runs and 1,308 RBIs.

All-Stars from the Southern California Collegiate Baseball League (SCCBL), of which the Palm Springs POWER are a part of, and the Orange County Collegiate Baseball League (OCCBL) will face off at 7:05 p.m. The annual Home Run Derby, featuring sluggers from both leagues, will take place at 6:05 p.m. Gates will open at 5 p.m.

Children who wear a jersey and bring their glove are invited to roam the outfield and shag fly balls during the Home Run Derby. The POWER staff will have an all-star lineup of activities and prize giveaways for fans of all ages throughout the evening.

SCCBL and OCCBL All-Stars will be signing autographs and taking photos with fans. Rocky the Ram, the beloved POWER mascot, will be on hand to greet fans and join in the fun on the final day of the season.
