PALM SPRINGS, Calif. ~ After defeating the So Cal Halos 8-0 on Friday’s Opening Day at Palm Springs Stadium, the Palm Springs Power looked to take their first series win against the visiting Halos on Saturday night.
RHP Jack Jett started on the mound for the Power. The junior from Hofstra University tossed seven scoreless innings and allowed just two hits while delivering three strikeouts.
With Jett’s solid performance on their backs, all the Power offense had to do was put up runs — and they did just that (in quite a resounding fashion).
Hobbs Nyberg went 2 for 3 on the night and smacked both a triple and a double in an 8-run fifth inning to tally 5 RBIs.
Izayah Alvarez tacked on 4 RBIs of his own as he made contact with a bases-clearing double in the seventh inning to give the Power a 13-0 lead.
Shortstop Landen Barns took two more for the team tonight, as he was hit by pitches for the third and fourth times this season (just two days in). His sacrifices did not slow him down, however, as Barns knocked an RBI single before scoring the final Power run to close out a 15-run offensive performance.
Coming off of tonight’s 15-0 home victory, the Power will face off against the visiting non-conference Orange County Riptide tomorrow night at 7:05 PM at Palm Springs Stadium. Sunday is Sunday Funday at the Stadium! Stop by for $2 Bud and Bud Light pints, $2 ice cream, and a free bounce house for the little ones!
