PALM SPRINGS, Calif – The Palm Springs POWER crushed the Southern Nevada Coyotes before a dazzling fireworks display on Independence Day, cruising to an easy 19-1 win, the second largest margin of victory of the season.
In total, six POWER batters had a multi-hit night. Justin Wylie (San Diego State) went an incredible 5-6 with three doubles, one triple, four RBIs, and two runs scored. Hunter Stratton (San Diego State), who did not start, went 2-2 with a home run, two RBIs, and two runs scored. John Mauldin (University of New Orleans) went 3-3 with a double, two RBIs, and two runs scored before being replaced in the sixth inning. Ryan Mota (Riverside City College) went 2-3 with a double, a home run (his 9th of the season), four RBIs, and one run scored before he was replaced in the seventh. The POWER would score in seven of eight innings off twenty total hits.
Stephen Wells (Harris-Stowe State) pitched five innings of relief, earning the win. Hayden Schilling (University of New Mexico), as well as racking up two hits, also pitched a hitless ninth inning. The Coyotes would only manage three hits all night.
