PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – The Palm Springs POWER increased their winning streak to seven and move to 2-0 in SCCBL play after their 6-1 victory over the Riverside Bulldogs.
POWER starting pitcher CJ Broussard (Cal State LA) took a line drive to the upper leg with two outs in the 1st inning and had to be replaced, though he reported that he is fine after the game. First reliever Kyle Brown (Cal State Monterey Bay) ended up with the bulk of the work, earning the win and giving up three hits, one run, and striking out five in 4.1 innings. Bryan Chesterton (Riverside City College), Darin May (Riverside City College), Andrew Kane (Mercer University), and Gabe Gentner (Cal State LA) each threw an inning of scoreless relief. POWER pitchers combined for just one walk and eight strikeouts on the night.
Ryan Mota (Riverside City College) added to his home run total, blasting a solo homer in the 2nd inning. Tyler Pritchard (USC) added a sacrifice fly in the 3rd, and John Mauldin (University of New Orleans) tallied an RBI single in the 7th. In total, seven different POWER players had a hit.
The POWER played a flawless game on defense, turning two double plays on the night, increasing their series total to seven.
The Riverside Bulldogs return to Palm Springs Stadium for game three of the three game series on Sunday, June 11th at 7:05 PM. Sunday is also Bark at the Park. Bring your dog to the stadium and get entered to win great canine-themed prizes.
