Danielson relishes being moved to the ninth spot in the POWER lineup
PALM SPRINGS, Calif.- Cole Danielson’s first hit as a member of the POWER led to the first run of the ballgame as the POWER moved to 6-1 on the young season.
“Batting ninth, I was more relaxed today,” said Danielson. “There was no pressure on me. No one really thinks much of the last batter but when you come out and do what you do… teams think otherwise.”
Taylor Grace sacrificed him to second and Brock Hale drove him in with a liner up the middle.
Starter Jordan Dreibelbis improved to 2-0 on the year after another outstanding outing, going deeper than his first appearance.
“I told Harry to let me keep going but he said we have a ton of guys to get work in, so I was fine with it,” Dreibelbis joked. “I told Harry when I got to the field that I’m going nine and he just laughed.”
Dreibelbis went seven innings and only allowed one run in the ballgame that lasted just over two hours.
In the sixth inning, the Seals did their damage with two outs as Ty Koehring singled and then scored on J.P. Soriano’s double.
Palm Springs wasted no time regaining the lead in the next half-inning.
Back-to-back walks to lead off the bottom of the sixth paved the way for the POWER offense. Ryan Avila grounded into a double play but Josh Rose crossed the plate to give the POWER a 2-1 advantage.
Danielson wasn’t done after recording hits in his first two plate appearances.
The sophomore from COD rocked an RBI double off the right field wall to score Kyle Wallau and put the POWER ahead by a pair of runs.
Cole Danielson came through again in the eighth inning with a two-run double that was followed by Taylor Grace’s RBI double to make it 6-1. Brock Hale’s second run batted in of the night extended the POWER lead to 7-1 and the bullpen finished it off.
Harry Gurley’s squad improved to 6-1 on the season and will entertain the So Cal Halos tomorrow at 7:05 on Jewish Community Night and POWER Giveaway Night.
