PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – POWER fans came to Palm Springs Stadium Tuesday and received a real treat from the Palm Springs POWER, who put on an offensive clinic against the Fresno Valley Bears to win the first of a two-game set by a score of 20-0.
The POWER got off to a hot start by taking a 3-0 lead in the second inning. The biggest hit came from Miles Bice, who smacked a 2-run RBI triple down the right field line in his first at-bat in a POWER uniform. The next batter, Nick Jackson drove in Bice on a looping RBI single into left field.
The POWER tacked on another two runs in the following inning. Daniel Sander scored on a double play with the bases loaded. Later in the inning, Ryan Raslowsky drove home Dylan Garcia on a single up the middle.
In the fourth inning, the POWER bats continued the damage against Fresno Valley, putting up another four funs to make the score 9-0. Garcia continued his hot hitting by driving in Bice and Jackson on a bases-loaded single. Two batters later, Ian McLoughlin singled to bring around Devin Carter and Garcia.
However, the offense was not done as the POWER added 11 more runs between the sixth and eight innings. The biggest hit in that span was Kobie Foppe’s 2-run RBI triple in the eighth to score Chad Clark and Raslowsky.
But the offense was not the only thing that the POWER had working for them on the night. Starting pitcher Angel Delgado found a great groove in his first ever start for the POWER. He pitched a shutout for his entire seven-inning outing and didn’t allow a hit through the first six innings. He allowed only one hit on the night and struck out 10 batters.
Delgado left after the seventh inning, and Matt Valencia came in to relieve him. Valencia allowed two hits and struck out the side in the eighth inning. Avery Sullivan took the ninth inning, and struck out all three batters that came to the plate.
The POWER will close out the series against the Bears Wednesday night, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Palm Springs Stadium.
