PALM SPRINGS, CA – The POWER (34-8) fell down early but bounced back to beat the San Francisco Seals, 13-5, in the rubber match on Sunday night at Palm Springs Stadium.
The offense pounded out 16 hits against the Seals pitching staff, including eight in the seven-run first and five in the five-run seventh.
Danny Edgeworth (Mercer) busted out of a slump going 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored to pace the POWER offense.
“Coming out of a slump you just want to get singles at first,” said Edgeworth after the win. “Try and get the barrel on the ball and good things happen.”
Jake Howeth (Texas Wesleyan) and Zach Sterry (Oakland) added two hits and three RBIs apiece for Palm Springs who scored double digits runs for the second-straight game.
Nick Smith (Western Illinois) got the win in relief, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings and allowing just three hits.
Trent Armstrong (Arkansas Tech), Austin Lord (Mercer) and Doug Finley (Colorado State University – Pueblo) each had a 1-2-3 inning to finish the game on the mound.
The POWER are off tomorrow before retaking the field on Tuesday in Game One of the Southern California Collegiate Baseball League Championship Series. Palm Springs will face the winner of Monday’s play-in game between No.2 Inland Valley Pirates and No.3 Team San Diego.
