After an exciting game on July 4th, the Force (22-4) came back with a vengeance on Saturday beating the POWER (24-5) by a score of 9-0.
“After a game like tonight you gotta come back tomorrow and have a short-term memory and forget about it and get back on the field,” said POWER shortstop Scotty Burcham.
Force starter Connor Little (University of Hawaii) was lights out as he twirled his own fantastic start.
The right-hander went seven innings while scattering five hits. He didn’t give up any runs and punched out three POWER hitters.
The POWER and the Force were tied for the first three innings of play before the Force pushed across the first run of the game after Cole Johnson (Washington State University) reached on a fielder’s choice scoring Austin Wobrock (University of Hawaii).
For the Force, that’s all they would need as the POWER would not be able to score any runs in the game.
This is the first time Palm Springs has been shut out since July 27, 2012.
Tonight, the POWER pitching staff gave up a season-high nine runs, three more than they had allowed in any game prior to today. The staff also threw a team-record 10 wild pitches.
The red and white can hang their hats on the fact that shortstop Scotty Burcham (Sacramento State) banged out three hits for the POWER and Jesse Bristow (CSU-Pueblo) only allowed one earned run in five innings pitched.
The POWER get back into action tomorrow hoping to get back in the win column against Southern Nevada. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
This is the last game for the POWER before they start a long nine game stretch solely against SCCBL teams.
Tomorrow night is a Giveaway Sunday as the first 200 fans will receive a free POWER hat.
