PALM SPRINGS, CA—The POWER (23-4) took home their third win in a row against the So Cal Catch (12-10) by a score of 5-1 on Wednesday night at Palm Springs Stadium.
Alex Mistuloff (Chico State) was brilliant in his second start of the season picking up his third win and going seven innings and allowing one run on six hits with four strikeouts.
“I just knew I wanted to throw strikes, and as long as I don’t give them too many free bases I like my chances and even though they hit me a little in the first I was able to calm down and go from there,” Mistuloff said after the game.
Catch starter Juan Berumen (Oklahoma Wesleyan University) took the loss going three and a third innings and allowing four runs on six hits. Three of those runs were earned.
The Catch scored their only run of the ballgame in the first inning when Scott Gillespie (Covenant College) singled home Perry Rigby (Covenant College).
The POWER then answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first on a Jordan Zimmerman (Mesa CC) RBI single scoring Ryne Clark (Chico State).
Hayden Nielsen (BYU) scored the second run for the POWER on a passed ball after a single put him aboard.
The POWER would score two more in the fourth inning after Zimmerman led off the inning with a double and then wound up scoring after Zach Sterry (Oakland University) singled him home. Sterry would eventually score on a wild pitch.
Zimmerman would score the fifth and final run of the game for the POWER in the eighth inning on another wild pitch.
Austin Lord (Mercer University) picked up his first save of the season going an inning and two thirds and allowing one hit.
The POWER are off tomorrow but are back in action Friday night against The San Diego Force, first pitch 6:00.
This Friday is also July 4th so there will be Fireworks following the ballgame here in Palm Springs.
