PALM SPRINGS, CA – Starter Cam Margaris tossed five shutout innings and the POWER offense did the rest as they defeated the High Desert Heat, 11-0, on Sunday night.
Margaris (Centralia) secured his first victory of the summer in his first start, allowing just three hits and striking out five.
“I think that we just did a good of getting outs after guys got on,” said Margaris after his start. “I struggled to get the leadoff guy in just about every inning and after that we settled down made some good plays and that helped me a lot.”
The POWER offense scored early and often against the Heat (8-14, 4-8) netting all 11 runs in the first four innings.
Ino Patron (Long Beach State) paced the POWER going 2-for-3 with a double, a stolen base, a run scored and three runs batted in.
Nick King (Georgia) added three hits and three and two runs. The Palm Springs-native finished the weekend series 5-for-10 with three runs and two RBIs.
Trent Armstrong (Arkansas Tech), Nick Smith (Western Illinois), Hayden Nielsen (BYU) and Austin Lord (Mercer) each pitched a scoreless inning to finish the game on the mound for Palm Springs.
The POWER (28-6, 9-3) hit the road tomorrow for a doubleheader with Team San Diego before returning home on Tuesday to wrap up their season series with TSD.
