PALM SPRINGS, CA — Keaton Cenatiempo (BYU) picked up his first win of the season for the POWER on Friday night as the red-and-white shut down the East LA Dodgers 5-0.
Cenatiempo was solid for five innings only giving up a trio of hits and keeping the Dodgers off the scoreboard.
Brandon Gomez (FIU) started the scoring for the POWER with a run-scoring double in the bottom of the first inning.
“I felt real comfortable at the plate,” said Gomez. “I wasn’t trying to chase bad pitches or allow the pitcher to come to me. I was up there attacking.”
Ryne Clark (Chico St.) added to the scoring with a sac fly in the third to make it a 2-0 ballgame.
Palm Springs was held scoreless in innings four through seven, but maintained the lead thanks to reliever Trent Armstrong (Arkansas Tech).
Armstrong was magnificent after relieving Cenatiempo in the sixth inning. He was perfect in the final four frames and struck out five Dodgers.
Manager Harry Gurley’s squad put the game out of reach with three runs in the eighth inning.
Jake Howeth (Texas Wesleyan) and Zach Sterry (Oakland University) each drove in runs, while Danny Edgeworth scored on a wild pitch.
Be sure to catch your favorite POWER players in the SCCBL/OCCL All-Star game tomorrow night at Palm Springs Stadium.
The POWER (37-8) will be back in action Sunday evening against the FBA Sharks at 7:05.
