PALM SPRINGS, CA — Morgan Earman was stellar on the mound yet again Tuesday night as the POWER defeated the Inland Valley Buccaneers 4-0 in a key SCCBL matchup.
The right-handed pitcher tossed six solid innings, walking one and striking out seven Buccaneer batters.
The POWER bats came alive right from the get go as Jake Howeth (Texas Wesleyan) and Turner Clouse (USC) each smacked RBI singles to give the POWER a 2-0 lead after one inning of play.
Clouse’s second single of the game was responsible for plating two more insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh. Turner lined one down the left field line that dropped in front of Bucs’ left fielder Miles Ryan. Ryan misplayed the ball and allowed both Jake Howeth and Hayden Nielsen (BYU) to score.
“I’ve been working with Coach (Legaspi) a lot in the cages,” said Clouse. “I’ve also been trying to get my swing back after missing a few games.”
Austin Lord (Mercer) pitched a perfect ninth inning for his second save of the season.
With the victory, the POWER move to 26-5 and 6-2 in the SCCBL. Manager Harry Gurley’s squad eliminated the Buccaneers from postseason contention and look to sweep the series tomorrow evening.
