PALM SPRINGS, CA—The POWER (14-1, 3-1) won again on Wednesday night 10-0, sweeping the two-game miniseries against their division foe the Inland Valley Buccaneers (3-10, 2-6).
Tonight’s starting pitcher Hayden Rogers (BYU) was absolutely dazzling in his third start of the season tossing seven innings and striking out eleven without walking a single batter en route to his third win of the season.
“I just wanted to pound the zone, pitch to contact, and I loved having AJ back there, he really is able to call a great game,” Hayden said after the game.
The POWER got ahead early scoring four runs in the first inning on a Jake Howeth (Texas-Wesleyan) RBI single and another RBI single by Turner Clouse (USC) which scored two. Hunter Bening (NW Florida St.) also scored on an error.
In the second inning, Bening got an RBI on a sacrifice fly, and the next batter, Jordan Zimmerman (Mesa CC) singled another run home.
In the third inning, shortstop Hayden Nielsen (BYU) doubled home a run, Howeth singled another run home, and that was plenty for the POWER.
Nick Smith (Western Illinois) relived Rogers in the eighth inning, and Austin Lord (Mercer) closed things out for the POWER in the ninth.
After an off day tomorrow, the POWER are back at it Friday night against the Lancaster Rounders. First pitch is scheduled at 7:05.
