The POWER continued their hot hitting start to the season Wednesday night defeating the Senators 21-0. For the POWER, they now have won five straight games to begin the year while the Senators have now lost two straight games to begin their young season. Every player in the lineup had at least one hit with SS Hayden Nielsen leading the charge with six hits and five RBIs. Jake Howeth was also locked in at the plate tonight going 2-3 with a double, a triple and a walk. He drove in three runs, scored twice and only played the first four innings. “This is a team that can really hit” says 3rd base/hitting coach Dale Legaspi. “I inherited a bunch of guys that swing the bat, but the thing that a lot of people don’t see is that these guys are out at the cages at 2:00 or 3:00 o’clock really honing their craft”.
But for a third straight night, the POWER didn’t just do it with their bats, they did it with their arms as well. Wednesday’s starter Bill Olsen tossed five shutout innings and struck out seven as he baffled the Senator hitters all night. To begin the season, POWER starters now have a 0.38 ERA through 24 innings of work. After Olsen left the game in the 6th, Turner Clouse entered into the game in the and tossed 2 shutout innings himself with Doug Finley finishing things off for the POWER.
The POWER score their first 20-plus run game of the season and record their first shutout of the season. Last season they had two games in which they scored 20 or more runs and they also had eight shutouts. The POWER have the day off tomorrow but welcome the Novato Knicks into town on Friday. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
