PALM SPRINGS, CA — The POWER (34-4) posted their largest shutout win of the season on Sunday, as they beat the Long Beach Elite, 15-0.
Blake Estep started for Palm Springs and threw five scoreless innings to improve to 4-1. The right-hander struck out a season-high six batters before giving way to Robert Hook and Doug Finley, who each threw two shutout innings out of the bullpen.
Palm Springs turned a double play in each of the first three innings and finished the game with four twin-killings, marking a new season-high. The shutout is the red-and-white’s ninth of the summer.
Ryan Raslowsky paced the POWER at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and four runs scored. Jonathan Serven also chipped in on offense, going 2-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored.
Palm Springs jumped all over Elite pitching from the opening frame, scoring two runs in the first, four runs in the second and three runs in the third. Raslowsky had the big blow in the second, scoring Serven and Brett Sullivan with a single to centerfield, and also picked up an-RBI sacrifice fly in the third.
The POWER tacked on six more runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh to completely put the game out of reach. Those rallies were highlighted by Serven’s two-RBI triple in the sixth, his first RBIs for the red-and-white, and Ryan DeJesus getting two at-bats as the designated hitter.
Palm Springs returns to the field on Tuesday when the East LA Dodgers make their way to Palm Springs Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Fans that cannot make it to the stadium can catch all the action on pspbb.com.
